Read Matthew 2:1-12

- Do you ever feel completely alone?
- Do you find that the world around us points to God? How or why not?
Study It
- What are some reasons for why the King would be disturbed at what the Magi said?
- What are some reasons why the star in the story is significant?
Apply it
- What things can you do this week to help remind you that you are not alone?
- What ways can you serve God that will help show the world that it is not alone?

- How would you describe love?
Study it
- What are some things that stick out in your
  mind about this chapter?
- What do you think Paul is trying to teach
  us about love?
- Who could be our model for this kind of
  love and where would you find them?
Apply it
- Who can you show more love to this week?
- What actions
  could we take to show this love?
- What will you do differently because of
  this passage?

Take any prayer requests
and blessings as you close in prayer.

Start off with a word of prayer for guidance in your discussion

Start it

- Share a story of when you have caused more harm than good?
- Are there any grudges that you are holding on to right now?

Study it

- Share any thoughts, concerns, or struggles that come up when reading verses 3-16.
- From verses 17 and on, what are some of the concerns that Paul is expressing in this chapter?
- What are some possible reasons why Paul is bringing up The Lord’s Supper?
- In what ways can we examine ourselves before we partake in the Lord’s Supper?

Apply it

- Are there areas in your life that create division among your fellow Christians? What can you do to change that?
- How can you help God’s community grow closer together, and will you make the commitment to do that?

Discuss the joys, concerns, or prayer requests you might have.

1 Corinthians 8

Begin with a word of prayer

Then read 1 Corinthians 8

Start it
- What kinds of things becomes a stumbling block for you when you try to spread the good news about Jesus?
- What are some actives in today’s world that some Christians call sins while others do not?
Study it
- What is the significance about eating food that was sacrificed to idols?
- Though Paul is talking about food, what are some of the underlining points he is trying to make beyond the food?
- In verse 8, Paul says that eating food does not bring us closer or further from God. What does this say about the character of God?
- In verse 9, Paul warns us that our freedom might become a stumbling block to others. What do you think Paul means by that? How might our freedoms be a stumbling block in our own walk?
Apply it
- Can you relate to Paul’s passion for the good news? How or why not?
- Look at verse 12-13. Are there areas in your life that you think might be causing a brother to sin?
- What ethical situations might you be facing in the near future that this chapter might speak to?

FOR INDIVIDUAL STUDY

In verse 4 Paul says that an idol is nothing in the world, are there things that you idolize that might harm your walk with Jesus?
Do you totally embrace that Jesus Christ is the one and only Lord? What does that mean to your life?
What can you do to better strengthen your brothers in Christ?
Think about things that you can do today or tomorrow to show your passion for the good news; like Paul is willing to show his by giving up meat.
